Collaged color pencil drawings

I make collaged color pencil drawings of animal forms made of minute gestures and impossible growth patterns that create compact energy fields. I collaborate with anatomical designs found in strains of life both common and precarious. I am inspired by 19th century naturalist photography and illustration, textile design, cellular photography, hermetic practices and children’s books. My process is time-intensive and meditative. The development of each piece is both calculated and mysterious, involving multiple underdrawings collaged with cut, punched and embossed paper details.

I live in a small high desert town in remote Southeastern Arizona. Dozens of varieties of birds are visible and audible outside my house. There are spiders multiplying in the corners of my room. I wonder about powerful sun rays making all things conjured with pencil and paper disappear again.
